It’s all about the Boots

Really there is nothing better than a statement boot this fall. I fell in love with this suede pair from Simply Be – the gorgeous bohemian-inspired embroidery in such bright colors. Perfect height for me – easy enough to walk around in and they just enhance a pair of jeans or leggings. I paired with a simple pair of “boyfriend” jeans, a waxed denim moto, a luxe but simple shirt and my favorite oversized scarf. A great look for any chilly fall day.

Fashion in Berlin

I’ve been a little quiet here because I’ve been traveling for the past two weeks in Europe with my partner S.  It’s been a wonderful experience overall (with a few hiccups – this is my first time traveling). I’ve been to Berlin, London, Manchester, Paris.

I wanted to share with you some of the outfits I’ve worn in each city.  I decided to basically keep all my pieces black/gray/white with some pops of color here and there.  Since it was cold in Berlin, you’ll see a lot of my H&M plus size waxed denim jacket – which is a perfect top layer.

A lot of folks in Berlin wear army green parkas as a top layer.  They look really laid-back and chic with their boots and skinny pants and parkas.  Seriously I love the fashion in this city.  Everyone in Berlin has the most amazing boots.  It’s like the thing you really throw a lot of money at – good shoes. For examples of gorgeous plus size parkas see asos curve’s options here and here

The Clarks shoes featured in the 4th and 7th photos are ones I picked up while in Berlin.  I don’t know if they’re available in the states, but here is a link to the euro shop version: http://www.clarks.eu/p/20356686.  They fit like a dream and I wore them all over the city on the first day with no “breaking in” required.

I put outfit details in the image comments.  Feel free to contact me for any other details or questions!

Shopping and longing for more Plus Size Options

Today I stopped by H&M to check out this Waxed Denim Jacket in their plus section that I really wanted for my upcoming trip.  I was also excited to see if they had anything else that might be worth trying out.  My clothing options for fall travel are feeling very limited after my big purge a few months ago.

I’m happy to report that the jacket is amazing and I got it in a size 18 (I find that with H&M I definitely need to size up on fitted items). I can’t wait to wear it EVERYWHERE this fall.

But I had a lot of feelings while I was shopping. There was so much cute stuff at H&M right now.  They just released the Paris Show 2013 Collection and it’s beautiful – lots of delicate materials with pretty details.  They had an amazing cream lace top shaped sort of like a sweatshirt that I was just lusting after.  Just lots of pretty things that I really would love to wear for fall.

I already know that H&M doesn’t carry my size, but they used to carry up to a size 16 in their straight size line.  Not anymore.  The largest size in any of their clothes is a US 12.  TWELVE. And on top of that, a ton of the clothes I was looking at were only in quantities in sizes 4-8.

This isn’t news. I shouldn’t get upset over these things, but I can’t help it sometimes – I just start to feel sad and angry that despite everything, trendy plus size fashion is still SO HARD to find.

Perhaps I’m just out of sorts – I know a lot of my fellow plus size bloggers are at #NYFW right now and they all seem to be having an amazing time.  I’m happy for them.  But I also know that for all of us, plus size fashion is still a struggle and we all are fighting to remind people that fat people exist and that we deserve to look adorable.  I mean, how hard is that?

Record Store Day & MYNT 1792 Collaboration

You all know how difficult it can be to find a perfect pair of skinny jeans. How thrilled was I when I was contacted by MYNT 1792 to try their Tribeca Skinny Jeans.  These jeans are premium denim.  They are not overly stretchy, they are not see-through thin – they ARE a perfect weight with a tiny bit of stretch and they simply fit well.  I want to own them in every color.

I decided to wear the new skinnies while I was out shopping on Record Store Day.  I needed something that would feel comfortable wearing all day long.  Because the weather has still been cold and blustery in Chicago – I needed to pair it with a long sleeve top and then added my go-to jean jacket.  I love this look and you’ll be seeing these jeans in many upcoming looks.

Chicago folks will likely recognize these murals from Logan Square and thanks to Fleur (floral shop) for letting us shoot a few inside (it was SO cold/windy!)
