Weekend Geometry

My weekends have been so busy lately (my life actually has been crazy!). I feel like I can’t really ever get caught up on all the things i have going on.

While out last night visiting the super cool Space Oddities shop and dropping off some new LastCraft candles and tarot decks for them,  I had an amazing tarot reading by Sarah Lorraine aka esoteriaofone. One of the biggest take-aways for me from the reading was that I need to CHILL.  So part of this weekend is me just taking some time for myself to refocus.

What do you like to do to engage in self-care? I like to turn off my electronic devices, read, take baths (I’m obsessed with LUSH products) and just sit and think. I have a lot to think about with my 35th birthday in a week and my wedding in about a month!

I’ve been very thankful for my Gwynnie Bee account lately as it provides me with lots of pretty clothes without me having to deal with finding the time for shopping.  This gorgeous geometric print dress is so much fun to wear on a summer day.  It’s a little on the short side, and I would wear leggings with it if I were out for the day. If you’re not a member of gwynnie bee yet – really I can’t recommend it more highly! It’s free the first month and they keep adding more and more unique brands. Feel free to use my link to join if you’ve been on the fence, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Palm Sunday

This palm-print Dorothy Perkins dress ticks almost everything I want in a summer dress.  It features an adorable but not over-the-top print, wide straps (I can wear a bra!), perfect knee-length (I can wear bike shorts under to prevent chub-rub), breathable fabric.  It’s just perfect.  The only thing it doesn’t have is pockets, but I’ll let that go because the rest of it is so fantastic.

It’s a great plus size summer dress and I wore it on a hot sunday to run to the farmers market to buy some gorgeous fresh veggies and flowers. The photos are inside because my partner S who usually takes my pics is out of town – I think they still turned out well!

I hope you all had a beautiful weekend (and a long one for my US readers).

Gwynnie Bee the “netflix” for plus size clothes

I’ve raved about Gwynnie Bee all over my fb and instagram, but I had to show you what it’s all about!

I was wary at first – I didn’t think they had a really well-rounded selection and items seemed not really my style.  However, as they’ve grown and expanded, I am happy to report that I just absolutely love them.

I do the 3-items-at-a-time option which is perfect for my needs.  A lot of my work wear has been gwynniebee and I’ve already purchased two of the items I’ve received (you have the option to buy items for much less than retail and they usually offer additional discounts and sales too!)

This is a Jessica Simpson cap sleeve floral print dress.  It’s super cute and fits so well.  I paired it with some tights and my go-to waxed denim moto jacket from H&M. Perfect for spring!

If you haven’t already checked out the month-free trial of Gwynnie Bee, I would love to encourage you to try!  Referral link here*.

Target Plus Size Relaunch

We’ve all been waiting months for Target to release their new plus size line.  My local shop finally had the new pieces this weekend.  I was honestly hoping that the rumor of the straight size line being extended to size 3x was going to be true, but what happened is that they only have one brand of plus size items now – Pure Energy.

I took a few photos of the selections, and there are some of the offerings on the Target website.

Overall there are some decent options.  They have some nice looking work pants mixed in with trendier items.  I loved this deco-style burn-out top with a dip hem.  It’s worth a look and I hope that Target will continue increasing plus size options.

Plus size and Horizontal Stripes

It doesn’t even need to be said anymore – I think breaking fashion rules is where you can tap into original style.  I love wearing horizontal stripes.  It’s been said that plus size folks shouldn’t wear them, but I don’t care.  Black and white stripes are a favorite of mine.  This shirt happens to be a maternity shirt from top shop which is sometimes a great way to find pieces that fit from straight size sources (I know fat does not equal pregnant, but i don’t really care where my stuff is from in the store as long as it’s cute).

I wore this layered stripey outfit to run some Sunday Funday errands and then to get brunch with S and my pal T.  We had a blast eating donuts at Nightwood in Pilsen and then we stopped to buy some new succulents to plant – aren’t these succulents that look like rocks cool? I just love them.

Fools Gold

My new favorite accessory is this gorgeous Pyrite aka “fools gold” necklace by King Onye.  Oneka is a local chicago jeweler who makes all the beautiful King Onye pieces.  She and I met while she was selling her wares in Wicker Park last year and we just keep running into each other all over Chicago.  She has fantastic taste and I love her work. I even bought a pair of her pyrite earrings for my friend Heather Lynn for christmas

Parks and Parkas

After visiting Berlin this fall, I was obsessed with finding a plus size parka that looked just the right amount of oversized.  Everyone there was wearing them and they looked so easy stylish.

I found this plus size parka on sale at Old Navy just before christmas and I was so excited.  It has all the details I wanted – pull ties on the outside, a vent back, a zipper and massive pockets (I have a water bottle in it!) Plus it was on sale for around $40! It’s not currently on the website – but I found it in store up to size 2XL (which I’m wearing).

Sweater Dress and shopping in Chicago

Shopping during the holidays can be a little much for me (I get crazy bad anxiety in crowds), but I wanted to support some local shops on Shop Local Saturday.  So I ventured out in this warm H&M sweater dress I’ve owned for ages and this lovely TwoJ’s Fencer Jacket and my super comfortable boots.  Shopping was a huge success – I got a few locally made letterpress cards, and a few small gifts for my family.

What local/small businesses are you shopping at this year?  I recommend the great businesses listed on my Logan Square post.  In the next few days, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite etsy and online shops!
