Pop Art and a Polkadot Dress

Happy 2016 friends!  I started the year off with a BANG! with a visit to the Museum of Contemporary Art’s POP ART show. I’m in love with so many of the artists in the exhibit but I especially love the intense graphics all over the exterior of the building advertising the show.  Just look at the geometric red bars and the newly redesigned MCA font – perfection!

I felt right at home in my very graphic outfit of this polka-dot Carmakoma sweater dress (they are one of my favorite plus size brands) and black/white Rebecca Minkoff purse. I have been absolutely lusting after this plus size sweater dress for a year and it finally went on sale via Gwynnie Bee so I snatched it up.  Other reviewers complained that it was sack-like and see-through but neither of those things seem like downsides to me.  I love the tunic shape and bold print and I just paired it with leggings and a cami so it doesn’t matter if it’s sheer.

I’m still trying to grow my hair out as you can see, but it’s getting longer! I’m really looking forward to some fun styling this year once I get some overall length.

My goals this year aren’t quite solidified yet, but I’m getting there. I hope to have up a post once I have some downtime in Los Angeles next week.

Carmakoma Polkadot Dress – Sz L (this is special sizing – Sz L = US Size 20)
Leggings – Lysse – Sz XL (I’m in LOVE with these wide-waistband leggings)
Cami – St Eve – Sz XL
Necklace – Forever 21
Booties – Lucky Brand
Bag – Rebecca Minkoff

Plus Size Blogger Burnout

If you’re an avid reader of plus size blogs, you may have noticed several plus size bloggers recently speak about Blogger Burnout.

What is Blogger Burnout?  Well…it’s different for everyone.  For some, it can be difficult to maintain a certain image all the time. Additionally, clothes are expensive and if you don’t buy new pieces – it doesn’t make for the most interesting blog.  And it can be hard to keep going when there isn’t a lot of incentive or pay for doing this every day (and it really is every day even when there aren’t posts – other social media needs to be maintained, constant upkeep, etc).  Plus most of us have day jobs and families and our own issues (mental and physical) that add extra difficulties.  But – I don’t want to seem like this is the most terrible thing. It’s just not easy to always be ON.

I’ve certainly had my share of having burnout feelings, so I wanted to just raise this post of solidarity to recognize that those feelings are real and that this isn’t as simple as putting a photo on the internet.

But speaking of photos – this is an outfit post too.  This outfit pulls a lot of things you’ve seen here and as always, I am going to always be recycling things.  This is real life y’all.  I wore this to get my haircut and run a few errands.  I really love wearing shorts with tights.  I feel a little less self-conscious than if I’m just wearing shorts alone, plus now that it’s colder – it’s a great way to layer.

Stripe Jacket – Vintage (thrifted in Toronto)
Green Oversized Sweater – Primark, UK Sz 20
Black Shorts – Style & Co jeans, Sz 16
Sheer black stockings – Hanes, Sz XXL
Green Booties with Gold detail – Modcloth
Necklace – Forever 21
Scarf – Urban Outfitters
Clutch – Kenneth Cole
Bracelets – Nordstrom Rack

Leather Skirt and Pointy Boots

It’s turned quite cold here in Chicago and of course it’s getting dark at what feels like 3 in the afternoon.  To keep my spirits up, I went shopping for some new things for the winter.  I’m so happy with my new pieces!

I found this faux leather skirt at forever 21 and squealed when I saw it – i still don’t see it on their website. At this point, I’m thinking it was sent from heaven just for me.  I’d been looking at a few leather skater-skirts online, but all were from the UK and I just didn’t want to wait – thank goodness I found this glorious thing.  I paired it with a white button-up, a body chain from Top-Shop and these amazing Dolce Vita (for target) winklepicker booties (from 2010 that I found in perfect condition at a Buffalo Exchange).
