Plus Size beach and resort wear – aka My Honeymoon in Tulum and Akumal Mexico

I haven’t really ever been on a beach vacation, so some plus size swim and resort wear was necessary for me this trip.  My first stop was swimsuitsforall for a new suit. I picked out the mega-patterned Junglebook underwire.  The pattern reminded me a little bit of a Mara Hoffman pattern and I just salivated for such a cute suit in plus sizes. I paired it with a dip-hem lace coverup that I purchased from city chic over christmas and of course a big floppy hat to keep my skin from burning.

Of course I also needed some pretty clothes to walk around town. Tulum has beach on one side and jungle on the other.  The jungle side has lots of mosquitos, so I was glad I brought a pair of jeans with me. I paired my skinny jeans from Target with a loose tank and floral chiffon top from Forever 21.  As with all my outfits for the most part – I had to wear some beachy shoes.  These lovely birkenstocks were absolutely perfect for all our adventures.

My other favorite find was an amazing patterned coverup from Asos Curve. I absolutely adore the colors and it worked great over my bathing suit but also as a piece to wear into town over my black shorts and black cami

It was such an amazing trip. We stayed at Vista del Mar in Akumal – a sleepy little town with some great restaurants including La Buena Vida and Turtle Bay cafe. We also enjoyed some of the best massages of our lives at the Budah Day Spa off the main drag. Akumal is great to just rent a bike in and get around. We took our bikes to the beautiful lagoon Ya-kul to look at turtles and fish in the breathtaking surroundings (the area is filled with beautiful bronze sculptures). After a few days there, we drove down to Tulum – and stayed in the gorgeous Coqui Coqui hotel and parfumerie. We chose the Eucalyptus/Cedar scent for our room – it was a perfect choice. The hotel had great beach seating and a beautiful boutique and restaurant. It was also across the street from the famous restaurant Hartwood, which we enjoyed on our last night (and we bumped into Maggie gyllenhaal while we were there). One of our favorite excursions was to Coba to see the huge ruins – but we also just enjoyed the drive there which was through several really cool little towns. It was a beautiful place. The town of Tulum was vibrant and filled with lots of “off the beaten path” sort of folks (I kept calling it “Burningman beach”).  Of course we came home to cold Chicago, but we are filled with sun and happiness and cannot wait to return.

Plus Size Moto Jackets for Fall

A reader wrote in to ask if there were good places to buy plus size moto jackets. ABSOLUTELY! There are some great options especially right now – tis the seasons for a beautiful leather or faux leather jacket.  These are some of my favorites and they range from $40-$200 and sizes 18-24.  There are lots of options, but here is a good starting point!

See the full details from the image above and where to buy at my polyvore (or click the jacket image above)

My outfit above includes my favorite waxed denim moto from H&M last year along with a dress from Gwynnie Bee

I promise a full outfit post after the weekend – Hope you enjoy shopping for your fall jackets! Let me know what you’re buying on my facebook page

Spring Florals

I managed to sneak off to Houston Texas this weekend and the warm weather allowed me to get a chance to finally wear this great plus size spaghetti strap Asos Curve floral print dress and my new King Onye INVICTUS pearl and bullet bracelet.

The weather was so nice on Saturday in Houston and I spent most of my time outdoors exploring some of the new shops and restaurants, including the new Southside Espresso. Of course I couldn’t help myself from hitting up old favorites like Buffalo Exchange and Vinal Edge

This stretch knit dress from Asos Curve is so comfortable and true to size (with a little stretch).  Of course you know by now that I’m addicted to my denim jacket from the Gap – this one is like my second skin.  And I’m sure that this new pearl and chain bracelet is going to be my go-to accessory this year.  It’s great because it really can be dressed up or down.

Of course it’s not a trip to houston without a visit to get some bubble tea and drive around to scope out the new mural art (like this wiener dog!)

Fashion in Berlin

I’ve been a little quiet here because I’ve been traveling for the past two weeks in Europe with my partner S.  It’s been a wonderful experience overall (with a few hiccups – this is my first time traveling). I’ve been to Berlin, London, Manchester, Paris.

I wanted to share with you some of the outfits I’ve worn in each city.  I decided to basically keep all my pieces black/gray/white with some pops of color here and there.  Since it was cold in Berlin, you’ll see a lot of my H&M plus size waxed denim jacket – which is a perfect top layer.

A lot of folks in Berlin wear army green parkas as a top layer.  They look really laid-back and chic with their boots and skinny pants and parkas.  Seriously I love the fashion in this city.  Everyone in Berlin has the most amazing boots.  It’s like the thing you really throw a lot of money at – good shoes. For examples of gorgeous plus size parkas see asos curve’s options here and here

The Clarks shoes featured in the 4th and 7th photos are ones I picked up while in Berlin.  I don’t know if they’re available in the states, but here is a link to the euro shop version: http://www.clarks.eu/p/20356686.  They fit like a dream and I wore them all over the city on the first day with no “breaking in” required.

I put outfit details in the image comments.  Feel free to contact me for any other details or questions!

Spooky Tree Print Dress and Birthdays

I bet you have lots of friends with birthdays right now. It’s a very popular time of year to be born and everyone right now is a Leo, so on top of it being birthday season, all your leo friends are just wanting to be adored with parties. Leos just can’t help it, right?  We need attention.  As for me, getting older (I’m turning 34 on tuesday) means that I’ve been making less of a big deal about my birthday – although here I am talking about it to all my readers.  But it’s a funny thing – I don’t want the fan-fare or the big parties.  I just want a quiet night with my intimate circle – eating food and having some San Pelligrino soda (my favorite drink of the summer!). And it’s odd too – to be 34 and to be queer and have a lifestyle that doesn’t quite fit the “norm” – I don’t have kids, I don’t own a house.  But my life is really quite lovely – I do have two sweet dogs and a beautiful apartment with S.  And I am pretty settled – I have a job and I like to spend a lot of time at home.  It’s a far cry from many of my other lives.  So many other lives I’ve lived.

But instead of waxing nostalgic, perhaps I should tell you about this dress – which is a lovely maxi dress I bought on Asos a few weeks ago.  It isn’t on the website right now, which makes me think that perhaps it’s sold out, which is the saddest.  I hope they restock it.  It’s called the “Spooky Tree Print Dress” It made for a perfect dress for walking around the city yesterday – the weather was a little chilly, so i topped it with my favorite faux-leather jacket from forever 21+.

Oh and for those who are regular followers, you may notice that my hair is a bit more violet now – I got it updated yesterday and I LOVE it!!

deathfatties:

I’ve just received my latest order from ASOS Curve in the mail – It was kind of a gamble buying this huge jersey dress. It’s kind of too big, but I’m going to belt it and love it forever!

Dress: ASOS Curve

Belt: Addition-Elle

Tights: Marks Workwearhouse

I’ve been debating buying this dress.  I wish it  were in black – I want an oversized black number so badly.
